Dr. Brian R. Forrest, M.D.
CEO and Founder of Access Healthcare. Originally from Wake County, he attended UNC Chapel Hill for medical school and specialized in family and community medicine in the residency program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem where he also completed his internship. He is an American Society of Hypertension Certified Hypertension Specialist and his special interests include management of chronic diseases like Diabetes, and Cholesterol. Dr. Forrest completed a Holderness Medical Research Fellowship and an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship while At UNC Chapel Hill. He is a pioneer in the Direct Primary Care Model, having originated the Micropractice DPC Model over 18 years ago. He has extensive experience in teaching, lecturing, and consulting about the model for individuals, medical schools, health systems, and practices.
Dr. Phillip Eskew, D.O. JD, MBA
Dr. Eskew is a family physician and attorney that practices in the Direct Primary Care setting. He met Dr. Forrest while still in residency during a lecture on DPC that Dr. Forrest was giving at his program. The summer after that he became a Visiting Scholar at the Robert Graham Center where his work was later published in the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine and he has continued researching direct primary care (DPC) ever since then. He completed his family medicine residency at the Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center in Lititz, Pennsylvania in June 2015 and was honored with the American Osteopathic Foundation’s Outstanding Resident of the Year Award in Family Medicine. After attending one of Dr. Forrest’s DPC Bootcamps at the end of his residency he joined the Access Healthcare Network team as a DPC legal consultant and as Co-Faculty at many DPC events with Dr. Forrest including for the ACOFP, AAPP, and AAFP including DPC workshops and at the DPC summit. He founded DPC Frontier in 2015, joined ProactiveMD in Feb 2016 and is the company’s VP of Clinical Development and General Counsel. Some of his earlier research comparing West Virginia and Washington DPC laws was published in the West Virginia Medical Journal. Dr. Eskew has advised state and federal legislators about DPC legislation, and is the general counsel of the Direct Primary Care Coalition where he also serves as a member of the steering committee. He graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012, the West Virginia University College of Law in 2008, the University of Kentucky Gatton MBA Program in 2006, and West Virginia Wesleyan College with accounting and chemistry majors in 2005. He has been a member of the Kentucky Bar since 2011, obtained a limited certificate to practice with the South Carolina Bar in 2016, and intends to use his diverse training to not only grow the Access Healthcare Direct network, but to support other DPC practices in the medical, legal, and policy arenas.
Director of Training and Implementation. Susan as an Associate Degrees in Business Administration and Human Resources and has also had extensive experience in various front office positions in the Direct Primary Care Model. Another native of the area, having lived in Wake County her entire life. She is the lead Patient Care Coordinator at the Main Access Healthcare Office and assists practices with transition to our model by helping train staff.
Shelley Kittrell, M.P.A
Director of Compliance and Insurance. received her undergraduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill and her Master’s Degree from NC State University. She has extensive experience in program and financial management and healthcare administration. She is a certified Red Cross CPR and First Aid Instructor , OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen compliance trainer, and a licensed insurance agent.
